Blogging Mistakes Happen...

Blogging mistakes are common. Bloggers make mistakes all the time. But most blogging mistakes are easy to avoid, and even easier not to create in the first place.

Blogging MistakesMistake One: not sticking to the topic of your blog. Blogs are designed around a theme. The more focused the theme, the more likely you will attract interested traffic. Most new bloggers however either cast around for a theme, hoping to hit on something that works, or are just post scattered topics in general.

Solution: keep your posts as focused as possible on the overall topic that you set out for your blog. Sometimes this means not writing about that cute puppy or sharing the weird story. And sometimes it means starting another blog!

Mistake Two: Not driving traffic to their sites. Blogging isn't just about posting content. Unfortunately, most people think that 'if they build it, they will come' and that is simply not true.

Solution: you need to work at bringing traffic to your site as well. Tell people about your blog on social media sites. Send out emails to friends and family when you make a new post. Ask them to tell their friends. Set up an auto-mailer that will send out new posts to those who subscribe.

Mistake Three: not updating often enough. Most bloggers start out really well. They write lots of posts and then it tapers off. They become discouraged, or worse, they think they aren't doing it right. Blogging needs just as much attention as any other online function, sometimes more so, and like most sites, unless you hit on something really big, you'll find that you don't make much of an impact at first.

Solution: set up a schedule to post regularly, three to five times a week. Write all your posts for the week at one time and use the built in post scheduling function to have them appear on different days. This post, for example, was written five days before it was scheduled to appear. If you can't handle the load find someone to share your blog or invite guest posters.

Mistake Three: not connecting with others in your niche. It is important to contact others in your niche, because it gives you a chance to participate in link exchanges.

Solution: one of the best ways to do this is to mutually recommend each others' blog sites. You can do this, quite simply by asking the site owner to review your site, and you offer to do the same. That way, you'll build a more valuable link base for the person you are reviewing. They are creating a two way link exchange with you as well. The review style link exchange is generally more valuable.

No matter what mistakes bloggers make, there's always a way to fix them. By working on the solution you will improve your blog immediately. You will find that implementing these solutions will help improve your blog traffic considerably.
