Some people have no idea that there are choices for web browsers. They use Internet Explorer because it came with their computer and never look further. That's okay. For many Internet Explorer is all they need or want. But there are more choices. Lots more!
Below is a list of selected Browser Sites. Note that many of these support multiple operating systems like Windows, Mac, LINUX, etc. The operating systems supported by each are indicated.
- Fire Fox Windows, Mac, LINUX.
- Opera Windows.
- Mozilla Windows, Mac, LINUX.
- Internet Explorer Microsoft product. Windows, Mac, LINUX.
- NeoPlanet Windows.
- Camino Mac.
- OmniWeb Mac.
- SeaMonkey Multi-purpose program (browser, email, IRC, etc.) - Windows, LINUX, Mac.
- iCab Mac.
- Lynx Text-based browser. UNIX, LINUX, VMX, DOS386
- Safari Mac, Windows.
- Amaya W3C project. Windows, Mac, LINUX.
- Netscape No longer supported. Legacy versions still available. Windows, Mac, LINUX.
- AMSC Ariadna No longer supported. v1.3 still available for download. Windows.
Internet Explorer is the most prolific (some would say "most popular") because it is in widest distribution but that is mainly because it is included free with Windows. Firefox is probably the most popular of the web browsers that people use by choice. Many would argue that it is the "best" browser currently available but each browser has its own following and its list of features and good points.
You should probably examine at least the more common ones and select the one that seems best for you need. You can install more than one browser on your computer. You may find one browser works best for some things and another for others.
If you are a website designer or if you create listing templates you should probably have at least Internet Explorer and Fire Fox to test how your work looks in each.
