You Don't Have To Be A Writer

In our last tip, we saw that most people are already using all 24 hours of their day. We're all busy, but some of us may not be using our time in the most effective way possible. Think of all the time you spend each week answering the same questions, explaining the same things and handling the same objections over and over again to your prospects, clients and even time-wasters and "tire kickers".

You can save a lot of time by simply directing people to articles, tutorials and FAQs on your website. Don't let the excuse of "being too busy" prevent you from creating and implementing an effective digital content strategy for your website or blog that will help to free up your time.

Ok then, let's move on and look at today's content writing tip...

Tip #2 - You Don't Have To Be A Writer

This is another excuse that prevents most website owners from publishing content on their website or blog on a regular basis. You don't have to be a writer to publish great content on your site or blog about your business.

Think about this...

Do you own a business? Do you have a fair amount of knowledge about your products and services, an interest or passion about whatever it is that you do or sell? Most business owners have no difficulty talking about their business to others when asked what they do in various social situations, special functions, industry, or networking events. In fact, if given a chance, most business owners will easily talk for hours on end about their business, products and services to anyone who is interested or willing to listen.

In essence, all you are doing when you are blogging or creating content for your website is "talking about your business in writing."

Just write as you would talk to someone if you were having a "one-on-one" conversation in a room with a potential prospect or your ideal customer. If you focus on educating others about the benefits of your business, products or services and the problems that these can help to solve, you will be training more site visitors to become better customers, build more credibility and trust with potential customers, and establish more authority online as the "go to" expert in your field and solution provider in your industry.

IN SUMMARY

You don't have to be a writer to publish content regularly on your website. Just "talk about your business in writing."

ACTION STEP

Recall a recent conversation you had with a prospect or customer where they asked you a question (e.g. how your products or services work). Write this question down on a piece of paper. Now, imagine that your ideal prospect has just asked you the very same question and imagine how you would reply to this person. Engage in an imaginary conversation with this person where they ask you great questions, raise problems or objections, etc. Write down exactly what you would say and, more importantly, write it exactly as you would say it. Don't edit anything, just write. Once you've done this, go over what you have written. Note how long it's taken you to write it all down, then put yourself in your "ideal prospect's" shoes and see how it all reads back to you.

Congratulations... you have just talked about your business in writing! All you have to do now to turn this into web content is tidy things up a little bit and publish it as a post on your WordPress site.

Develop a habit of practicing having imaginary conversations, presentations or Q&A sessions with your ideal prospects and customers and you will soon find yourself blogging about your business on a regular basis.
