I began casually selling my handmade goods under the shop name "The Cryptic Cupcake" in Febuary 2007. I wasn't as dedicated to it as I am today -- I was just getting into jewelry making and sewing at the time -- and I saw it as an outlet to make some extra money. It gradually grew, along with my skills in my chosen craft and the goals I set for my business. I decided to temporarily close the business down in the summer of 2008, and reopen it with better ideas and bigger dreams. Thus "Love and Cupcakes" was born.
Love and Cupcakes is stocked with 100% handmade pieces for those with a quirky, and varied, fashion sense. The inspiration for my designs can be anything from Gothic to Haute Couture, or from Raver to Lolita. Having an eclectic fashion sense myself, nothing that I don't love and wouldn't wear myself gets sold.
What's stocked in Love and Cupcakes is almost as varied as the style. Though the main focus is jewelry, hair accessories, and clothing, I also have original art for sale, and I plan on adding handmade lip balm and magazines.
As Love and Cupcakes succeeds, I'd love to open it up in a brick-and-mortar store, while continuing to sell my pieces online, and have it able to support me as a full time job.
My advice to other online business owners: don't let yourself get discouraged! There are going to be lapses in your success, but don't give up. If you keep going, and stay dedicated, you will succeed!
