On February 1st, 2009, Your cell phone number was released into the public domain. Prior to that date your numbers were generally the equivalent of being unlisted. Now, by being public, your cell phone number will be open and available for any telemarketing companies to find and you may start to receive a multitude of some very annoying and pesky calls! I’ve already received calls from advanced pay check companies, loan companies, advertising agencies, and many other marketing companies and my number is supposed to be private!

Every time they call you with a pre-recorded message, leave a 2-3 minute message on your voice mail, you talk to a live representative, or listen to their presentation, it’s eating up your cell phone minutes. And this doesn't account for your personal time wasted in dealing with these unsolicited sales calls and telemarketers, or the frustration of interruptive calls at inconvenient times and hours of your day.

Believe me, a number of people have figured out a huge market potential by making this move. I’m not against anyone making money, don’t get me wrong, but I bought a cell phone to have a private number and not be receiving calls from people I don’t know or care to talk to. And I’m sure you feel the same way.

You can prevent this from happening to you by taking a few seconds and call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222. It is the National Do Not Call List. It blocks your number for 5 years. In order for it to work you must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked! It can take up to 31 days for it to become effective for your number so don’t wait. After 31 days should you continue receiving calls get the company name or phone number and go to http://donotcall.gov where you can report them.
