Did your best friend just land her dream job in the big city? Is your sister preparing to have the ultimate fairytale wedding? Did your neighbors just leave for a once-in-a-lifetime vacation to the tropics? Everywhere you look, it seems like everyone else is out living their best lives. But you need to understand the dangers of comparison.

Understanding the Dangers of Comparison

Dangers Of Comparison

Seeing all those other people engaging in important, exciting, or fun times, successes, and celebrations may cause you to feel some resentment or jealousy! You compare yourself to them; what you have done to what they are doing.

When you lack contentment with your own life, it is easy to experience FOMO (also known as the Fear Of Missing Out).

Living in the social media age makes this even tougher to avoid – when you see everyone posting photos of their very best moments, it is easy to forget that you are only seeing their highlight reels and not an accurate representation of their complete everyday lives. They seldom, if ever, share the mundane, the boring, or the uneventful bits of their lives.

Constantly comparing yourself to others is dangerous. Not only does it cause unpleasant feelings of jealousy and inadequacy, but it also disrupts your contentment with your own life. It is, in fact, counter-productive.

When you are comparing your life to others, it is easy to forget all the aspects of your life that are great. You may, and probably do, excel in other aspects of life. Instead of comparison, get over it and get on with what you do best.

Comparison is often the thief of joy – do not forget to keep track of all the great things happening in your own life. In doing so you will restore contentment. Do not let the dangers of comparison drag you down!
