My name is Stephen B. Henry. My friends call me Steve. You can too. I studied drama in university. I also studied psychology. Drama because I was interested in film and becoming a director. Psychology because I wanted to learn more about myself. Things did not turn out as I had expected.
Drama taught me more about myself than I could have imagined. While I did not become a director -- well, not unless you count a couple of volunteer gigs with local theatre -- the wonderful things I learned in drama classes have informed so much of my life over the years. Thank you Mary Jane.
Psychology taught me one thing: they had no idea what was going on in the human mind. I guess that is why they say you practice psychology, because no one is really good at it. In fact, the things about the brain (and the mind) that I was interested in back then, they are only really discovering a partial understanding of now, some 50 years later.
I did learn that university is not about job training, rather it is to free the mind, to free one's thinking. That is actually a wonderful thing and I have used so much of what I learned there to support my personal growth over the years. Note that I said what I learned, not what they taught me.
Truth be told, I did not really know what I learned until after I left and discovered it as it applied to real life living over the years to come. Had I known then what I know now, I probably would not have gone to university at all. I was already in business for myself and a year or two in a private business college might have been a better choice.
It took me years to get over university. It took me even longer to try one business after another trying to find what I wanted to do with my life. The thing is, the one thing I needed to really succeed, materialize my dreams, and master my future, had not yet been invented. How cruel life can be! And the public Internet, as we know it today, would not become a reality for several decades to come.
And though ARPAnet was already in its fledgling stages of creation, and TCP/IP was in use, it would be several years before I had a job in the mid 80s that opened that, and NSFnet, to me. Though I had already discovered personal computers in 1979, it was not until some 10 years later, in 1989, that I embraced the online world for my personal use, through the creation of a BBS, AMBASSADOR BOARD. And not until early 1994 when I would build my first website.
It took the rest of that decade for me to fully understand, and embrace, the online world as the underpinnings of what I really want to be when I grow up. Twenty-two years later I am still not really sure that I have grown up yet, but I am surely doing what I was meant to be doing all these years later.
As a holistic guide and mentor to small business owners and solopreneurs, especially online retailers and coaches, I guide them through overwhelm, and their struggle with online tech, business structure, marketing, and mindset. Known by many as the WordPress Wizard and the Coach's Coach, I earn my entire income online helping others do the same.
I would really love to help you get your start in online business, expand your existing business to become what you dreamed it to be, or generally help you discover what you really want to be when you grow up. You do not have to spend a lifetime figuring it out on your own as I did.
The time to hire your guide is before you get lost in the woods!
