There are dozens and dozens of things you can do to improve your blogging results and bring more traffic to your blog and posts. And traffic is important. You cannot convert visitors to clients or customers if you do not have visitors. Search optimization is important but great, authoritative, content targeted to your primary audience is even more important. Here are just 10 important ideas you can begin applying almost immediately.
• Comment on Other Blogs
An easy way to get a promotional boost for your blog, and to improve your blogging results, is to comment on other people's blogs. For each comment, enter your name and site URL in their respective fields in the comment form. Doing this will, over time, help your search engine optimization efforts. Leaving relevant, interesting, authoritative, and useful, comments on other's blogs, particularly those that are related to your own blog's topic, will be noticed by people, many of whome will follow the link back to your blog in order to learn more about you and read more of what you have to say. This is a big win.
• Post Frequently
Posting frequently on your own blog will boost your search engine traffic by improving your search engine optimization (SEO) and will lead aditional traffic to your blog. The definition of "frequently" will vary and you will need to experiment and find what works for, and what is doable by, you.
• Participate in Online Forums and Groups
Join other forums and groups related to your own blog topic and become an active, contributing, rule-following, member. If allowed, include a link to your blog in your forum signature. In this manner it will always be available to other members.
• Link to Other Blogs in Your Own Posts
Try to include links to other blogs, called "external links", in your own blog posts. Refer to other blogs you enjoy reading or specific posts you found particularly interesting. When those other blogs have the trackback feature turned on in their blogging software programs, you will automatically get a link back to your own blog in the comment section of those posts. At the very least, the other blogger will see the incoming links from your blog in their blog statistic reports. This will put you and your blog on his or her radar. That can only mean more relevant exposure for you.
• Use Social Media
Leverage those promotional opportunities that social media platforms provide. Join a variety of social networking sites like Facebook, LinkedIn, and others. Include links to your own blogs, recent posts, profiles, groups and forums. Join social bookmarking sites like Digg, StumbleUpon and Delicious and submit great content. In most cases it dose not even need to be your own. You should also consider jumping on the micro-blogging bandwagon. Join Twitter. All of these efforts will increase awareness of your blog and give it added exposure which will turn into more traffic. It is up to you to convert that traffic through other on-site efforts.
• Include Your Blog Link in Your Email Signature and on Business Cards
Basically, include your blog URL anywhere and everywhere you are allowed. Your email signature and business cards are two of the most obvious places to promote your blog with a link or printed URL. Do not be afraid to think outside the box -- as I often say, "Have no box at all!" Promotion is key to success when it comes to blogging, so do not be shy about tooting your own horn where ever you can.
• Hold a Blog Contest
Creating a blog contest on your own, or through any of several contest websites, can bring both attention and traffic to your blog. There is a little more work here but it can produce effective and significant results.
• Join a Blog Carnival
Blog carnivals are another easy way to get links to your blog in front of a lot of people. The more closely related to your blog topic the carnival is, the more traffic you will likely get from it. This is something worth looking into.
• Two or More People Working on a Single Blog
To further improve your blogging results, offer your services as a guest blogger for other blogs in your niche, particularly ones that get more traffic than your blog does. Guest blogging is a great way to get more links to your blog and your own thoughts and writing spread in front of people who are likely to be interested in learning more about you, your blog, and your business offerings. Do not be afraid to invite and accept guess bloggers to your own blog.
• Have Multiple Sites and Link Them Together
The more blogs or websites that you maintain, the more interlinking is possible. That interlinking can be used to promote your blogs, and your business, and improve your blogging results, through different channels that might attract different audiences. Create an integrated blog marketing plan by aligning your promotion efforts across your various blogs, websites, and social media platforms, in order to reap the biggest traffic and conversion rewards.

Hi, glad to read this useful post. I would like to point my observation here for other readers.
1. These are all traffic generation, not the ranking techniques
2. These are out of the box solutions for being successful in blogging
3. Traditional SEO techniques are dead. Follow these new ways. Follow the traffic instead of ranking. You got the traffic, you got the SEO automatically now
4. All these techniques have only one purpose in my point of view, Maximize your online presence.
5. One advice from me. Leave no avenue of the online world to present your brand/product/blog. Get maximum benefit of social media and engage users with interesting & useful content. You have to not worry about any SEO
